Art
At Woodchurch CE Primary we believe that Art and Design can enable children to communicate their thoughts, ideas and observations in a practical and expressive way. This then gives the ability to influence the world around us in a positive way. Our Art and Design programme develops our children’s resilience and self-confidence, enabling the children to see themselves as artists and designers. We aim to give the children experiences that shape the way they creatively see and record the world around them; broaden their horizons and provide all children with a creative outlet for self-expression.
How we teach it?
We have developed our own scheme of work that explores a mixture of classical and contemporary art from a range of different cultures. A diverse range of artists, designers and architects’ drawing, painting, digital and sculpture work is explored. Our children are encouraged to critically analyse the use of line, shape, texture, form, colour, tone and space. They learn the key knowledge associated with the particular type of art and develop their skills through experimentation. We nurture the children’s creative thinking skills and celebrate the children’s Art and Design journeys. We encourage the children to reflect on how their art work does not only focus on the technical aspects that they have developed, but also embodies the children’s feelings and beliefs.
