COMPUTING

“The School, Through Its Distinctive Christian Character, Is Outstanding At Meeting The Needs Of All Learners.” (SIAMS)

“I think it’s fair to say that personal computers have become the most empowering tool we’ve ever created. They’re tools of communication, they’re tools of creativity, and they can be shaped by their user.”

Why we teach it

At Woodchurch CE Primary we are equipping the children with the skills they will need in a world of rapidly-changing technology and the ability to use that technology safely and securely not only in computing but across the whole curriculum.

We aim to ensure that all pupils are confident in using code and can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including logic, algorithms and data representation. When they are coding, pupils can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.

Information technology forms and underpins a key part of the Computing curriculum. Within this, pupils are expected to be able to effectively communicate and can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems. Pupils should be able to connect with others responsibly and are competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.

How we teach it

Using a bespoke curriculum tailored for our setting, our pupils are involved in highly engaging and interesting lessons that cover the three core strands of the Computing curriculum. With opportunities for both ‘plugged’ and ‘unplugged’ learning woven throughout, the children get to explore far more than what has been possible before. Thanks in part to our work with MerseyGrid Limited (MGL), we have access to a number of advanced resources to further enrich our computing curriculum, such as VR Headsets, the latest in children’s robotics and a variety of modern, up to date devices.
