Welcome to our Year 2 Class Page, here you will find all the information relevant to our lovely Year 2 class at Woodchurch C of E Primary School. For further information, please see the rest of the school website.
PE
PE is every Monday and Tuesday in Year 2. Parents should make sure children’s earrings are taken out or covered with tape. Children should come into school in their PE kit on these days.
Homework
In Year 2, we set a written homework task which is sent out on a Friday and is then due in on the following Friday.
We also send out reading and phonics books on a Friday, we then expect phonics books to come back into school on the Monday.
We would like book bags to be brought in every day.
What does reading look like in Year 2?
Your child will have a reading practice session each day with one of the KS1 Teaching team.
Your child will work through group reads, paired reading and individual reading practice throughout the week based on the focus sound they are learning.
Each week we will send home two reading books: One book will focus on the focus sound your child is working on via ‘Phonics Shed’ – the scheme we use to teach early reading and Phonics; the other will support this work but may be a fiction or non fiction book.
We kindly ask that you read little and often with your child – this will help build their confidence and their fluency.
Please record when you have read with your child in their Reading Record.

Recommended reads
- Marv and the Dino Attack by Alex Falase-Koya – An exciting and engaging read!
- Isadora Moon Goes to School by Harriet Muncaster – We love the Isadora Moon series in Year 2, but this one in particular is one of our favourites!
- Uncle Gobb and the Dread Shed by Michael Rosen – We love the chance to read Michael Rosen in Year 2, always an engaging and humerous read.
- The Big Book of Why by Sally Symes and Stephanie Warren Drimmer – We are so curious in Year 2 about lots of different things, we love the word “Why”. This one helps us to answer those questions.
- Mr Majeika by Humphrey Carpenter – A book about a not-so-ordinary teacher!
- Don’t look in this Book by Samuel Langley-Swain – A book full of Rhyming Couplets to encourage reading out loud.

We regularly put out key information via Marvellous Me. If you would like up to date information on our class, especially any good behaviours or work the children have been displaying, please us the Marvellous Me app. Please enquire at the school office if you are unsure how to set this up.
