In Foundation 2, we have story time every day; this may be in small groups or as a whole class. We love to see the enjoyment the children show during our daily story time. Fostering a love of early reading is something we strive for. 

We use the Phonics Shed reading programme to support your child’s reading development. Phonics is taught every day. Children learn four sounds each week, plus some common exception words (for example, am, the, went). Children are given a pack of sounds to bring home and practice; this should be every night ideally. 

Time is built in with the Phonics Shed programme to allow children to consolidate the sounds they’ve been learning before moving onto the next set of sounds. In F2 children will typically learn Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 sounds and common exception words. In class children will be working with their teachers every day and take part in reading sessions in small groups. At the end of the week your child will be given a reading book to bring home and read to you.
