Welcome to our Year 4 Class Page, here you will find all the information relevant to our lovely Year 4 class at Woodchurch C of E Primary School. For further information, please see the rest of the school website.
PE
PE is every Wednesday in Year 4. Parents should make sure children’s earrings are taken out or covered with tape. Children should come into school in their PE kit on these days.
Homework
In Year 4, new homework goes live on Spelling Shed on a Wednesday and is linked to the spelling session that is completed in class that week.
Pupils should also aim to spend at least 20 minutes a week on TTRockstars in the garage arena.
What does reading look like in Year 4?
In KS2, we do not engage in daily 1:1 reading with the children. Instead, during our reading workshop sessions, the children will have the opportunity to read a variety of new and unfamiliar texts with their class teacher.
During our Reading Workshop sessions, we not only read the new text, we learn how to analyse and pick apart the text. We look at new and unfamiliar vocabulary and explore the language that is being used. Children also have the chance to hone their comprehension skills as we begin to answer questions relating to the text.

Recommended reads
- The Wild Robot Escapes by Peter Brown – The sequel to the first Wild Robot book which we love.
- The Wild Robot Protects by Peter Brown – We can’t have one without the other, this is a sequel to the Wild Robot Escapes.
- Varjak Paw: Outlaw by SF Said – A must read for a Year 4 pupil. We love outlaw, but we also recommend the rest of Varjak Paw.
- Chocolate Cake by Michael Rosen – We love Michael Rosen at Woodchurch C of E. Chocolate Cake is one of our all time favourites!
- Bunny vs Monkey by Jamie Smart – A lovely and engaging series of books.
- How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell – Not only a fantastic book, but Cressida has visited our school library before. Definitely a must read.
